Giles Walker – Director
A Scotsman working in Canada, Giles Walker has been the director behind a number of popular television series and movies. He began his work in the 1970s, starting with documentary shorts and short films, then switching to the television series Sirens, Lassie, Little Men, PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, Emily of New Moon, Blackfly, Cold Squad, Tales from the Neverending Story and Fries with That, to name just a few. He has also acted as producer, writer and editor on a number of credits.
Michael Kennedy – Director
Michael Kennedy is an award-winning director who has leant his expertise to 14 feature films/TV movies and more than 120 television episodes that span all genres. He directed every episode in the first season of the groundbreaking Little Mosque on the Prairie (for which he was nominated for a Gemini), and is often called in to help start new series on the right footing. His other credits include Made in Canada (which also earned him a Gemini nomination and two Directors Guild of Canada awards), Kids in the Hall, Wind at My Back, P.R., Blackfly, Mental Block, North/South and most recently, She’s the Mayor. He was also nominated for a Directors Guild of Canada award for his work on the Emily of New Moon episode, “Rites of Passage”.
Marlene Matthews – Writer
Marlene Matthews has written for a number of award-winning television series and her work on these series has contributed to their international acclaim. She has received four Gemini Award nominations – two for her writing on Kevin Sullivan’s Road to Avonlea series and two for Emily of New Moon (Best Series and Best Writing). Matthews has also contributed her skills to Kevin Sullivan’s Wind at My Back and By Way of the Stars, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Ready or Not and Cold Squad.
Leila Basen – Writer
Leila Basen has worked on more then 20 popular television series and films. Some of these include Urban Angel, Street Legal, Road to Avonlea, The Odyssey, Ready or Not (for which she was nominated for a Gemini Award), Riverdale, Bob and Margaret, Blackfly, Tales from the Neverending Story, Mental Block and Heartland. She also won a Canadian Comedy Award for her work on the hit movie Bon Cop, Bad Cop, starring Colm Feore.
Michael Donovan – Executive Producer
The Oscar-winning producer of Michael Moore’s documentary Bowling for Columbine, Michael Donovan, is also the recipient of countless Gemini nominations, as well as wins for the pre-school program, Poko, and the comedy series Codco, Made in Canada and This Hour Has 22 Minutes. His work on the Emily series garnered him a Gemini nomination for Best Dramatic Series and he was up for two Genie awards for his critically acclaimed him, Shake Hands with the Devil. Donovan co-founded Salter Street Films along with his brother, Paul, and recently co-founded The Halifax Film Company with producer Charles Bishop.
Christopher Dedrick – Composer
American composer Christopher Dedrick was nominated for two Gemini Awards for his musical compositions for Emily of New Moon, and has a long and impressive list of musical credits to his name. He was the musical force behind several television series, including Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Twilight Zone, Dracula: The Series, Everest, the films Under the Piano, I, Claudia and a number of television documentaries, including Great Adventures of the 21st Century: Lawrence of Arabia, Charles Lindbergh: The Lone Eagle, Kidnapped: Frank Sinatra Jr. and Shades of Black: The Conrad Black Story, to name just a few. He was also the recipient of a staggering 12 Gemini Award nominations, winning for best music for programs such as Road to Avonlea, Million Dollar Babies and The Great Polar Bear Adventure. Sadly, Dedrick passed away in 2010 at the age of 62.
Robert Mattigetz – Cinematographer
One of the cinematographers on Emily of New Moon, Robert Mattigetz’s credits include both acting, and visual and special effect work on several titles. His other credits include the short films Side Orders, The Big Thing and Man Depot, as well as the series 11 Somerset, Blue Mountain State and, most recently, La galere.
